This last Saturday I was visiting the Pérez Art Museum in Miami (PAMM). The idea to visit came from Vicky, a fellow travel blogger at www.buddythetravelingmonkey.com.

We met at the museum and started exploring. The entry was for free because they have two free days each month. The first Thursday and the second Saturday of each month give you free access to the museum. Normally the price would be 16 USD for an adult.

The museum is rather small and you can explore it pretty quick and squeeze it in between other appointments.

If you like what you see, that’s what you have to decide. For me, it was rather not so interesting as anticipated. Some of the exhibits are garbage, I mean literally garbage. Like one exhibit is a display of garbage collected on a beach and sorted by color. This is not really art for me, but I get what the artist wants to show. It’s really amazing what you will see and what gets found on beaches, some pretty bizarre items.

For me, the outside of the building was actually more interesting as the collection inside. The museum is situated right next to the Museum Park – what a surprise ;-).

At the back of the museum, facing the harbor is a café and you can sit outside and watch the cruise ships.

After we finished at the Pérez Art Museum, we went to Wynwood, a neighborhood in Miami, for a quick bite. I started exploring the Wynwood Walls after that. This is for me real art – street art. A lot of the sides of houses in Wynwood have street art and graffiti murals on them. The Wynwood Walls are very famous here in Miami amongst locals. The murals are always changing. Wait a while between your next visit and this place will look different. Wynwood Walls feature some of the worlds most renowned street artists.

Wynwood is now known for its art and fashion districts. The Wynwood Art District contains over 70 galleries, museums and art collections. The second Saturday night of every month is “ArtWalk” in Wynwood, and the art galleries and studios open their doors to the public.

In Wynwood, you will find a lot of bars, clubs, cafés, and restaurants for a colorful nightlife. If you love art, you definitely have to stop by in Wynwood rather than at the PAMM.
