Audi is testing its new program called “Audi on demand” in San Francisco. You can rent one of their luxurious cars and the premium vehicles all come with all-wheel drive – quattro.

The cheapest model is the Audi A4 for $155 a day and the most expensive one is the Audi R8 Spyder for “only” $1,285 per day. But in the price included is the delivery to your doorstep and also the pick-up of the car after you are done with your rental.

The list below shows you all cars available and the vehicles marked red come with a mileage cap of 200 miles per day. Each additional mile will cost you $0.50. However, for the R8 Coupe or Spyder, you will have to pay $1.00 for every mile over. The total mileage cap will be 200 miles multiplied by the number of days you will rent the car. If you drive one day over the 200 miles and the next day less, you will still be ok and won’t have to pay. If you don’t accumulate more miles as 200 miles multiplied by your rental days.

You can either use your own car insurance or buy additional insurance through Audi on demand. Also, all FasTrak tolls are included in your rental price. The vehicles are equipped with the FasTrak transponder, and you won’t be charged for bridge tolls or express lanes.

There is a FAQ section on the Audi on demand website with more information.

All Audi models are equipped with MMI Navigation Plus and come with a premium trim, which varies from model to model.

The service is currently only available in San Francisco, and you must have an iPhone to unlock your car. An Android app is in the works but there is no estimated release date for this app yet. For your first rental with Audi on demand, you will have to meet with the concierge to verify your details. All consequent rentals will be fully digital – you rent the car, it will be dropped off and you can unlock it with your phone at any time.

I would like to hear from you if you have used the service. I am waiting for the Android app and might give it a try.

There is also another way to rent an Audi in San Francisco and a couple of other major cities in the US. This service is called Silvercar and is not related to Audi on demand. Silvercar rents only silver Audi A4’s and in Denver also the Audi Q3. Here is my experience with them in San Francisco.

UPDATE:

Audi bought Silvercar in 2017 and renamed it to SIlvercar by Audi. On November 5th, 2022 Silvercar became Audi on demand and the “old/original” Audi on demand service died.
