Just a few hours ago Cathay Pacific teased in a video that they will launch a new US-route. The choices were Houston, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Salt Lake City, Denver, Miami, Dallas, Austin, Seattle. Just now they revealed their next US destination. The winner is … Seattle.

As of March 31, 2019, Cathay Pacific will operate 4 non-stop flights a week between Seattle and Hong Kong. Flights are already bookable for flights starting March 31st, 2019.

On this route, Cathay will operate its modern A350-900 which offers Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class. Their A350 is excellent and I love their reverse herringbone business class seats. I took a trip earlier this year to Hong Kong from San Francisco.

As a frequent flier on Oneworld, this is great news for me and all the Oneworld elites out there. This new route makes sense for Cathay Pacific, as Seattle is a growing hub in the US and the closest major city in the continental US to Hong Kong.

About a month ago Delta Airlines announced that they will cease non-stop service to Hong Kong in October of 2018. This gives Cathay a monopoly in Seattle operating non-stop flights to Hong Kong. Besides being a part of Oneworld, Cathay Pacific has a partnership with Alaska Airlines. This gives Cathay an extensive connection network in both places with Hong Kong as Cathays main hub and Alaska Airlines Seattle hub.

Cathay Pacific frequently offered free tours of Hong Kong if you are flying with them to Hong Kong. The current promotion ends in November 2018. Keep your eyes open as you get closer to your travel date, even with the current promotion ending. There will be most likely a new one and you can contact Cathay to add you. I got the chance to experience one of their tours. After I found this promotion I contacted Cathay and they helped me to redeem this offer.

Hong Kong is a great city to visit. If you haven’t been there, you should definitely plan to go. Check what the city has to offer. There is so much to do. Ready to go to Hong Kong?
