If you are looking to get away from the craziness of Black Friday, why not visit a State Park. Many states give you free entrance to their state parks on the day after Thanksgiving, inspired by REI’s #OptOutside movement. Bring the whole family and explore the wonders of your country.

This is the list of all State Parks giving you free entrance and parking to their parks.

  • Colorado
  • Delaware
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • New Mexico
  • Oregon
  • Vermont

These state parks have restrictions, according to the press release. You would want to contact your local park for more info about participation.

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Nevada
  • Virginia

California is celebrating the day after Thanksgiving as #GreenFriday and giving out 13,000 free vehicle day-use passes (first come, first serve) for 116 California state parks. Most of the parks are already “sold out”, but maybe your favorite park isn’t. Check on their website to register for a free day-use pass.

Will you go outside or wait in lines in stores? Two years ago I went on a geocaching trip to find several caches with the name “Cache Friday”in the Bay Area. This is another way of going outside and exploring nature.
