As I was searching for some geocachers in the greater Los Angeles Area, I found the Landops Meetup-Group. The next upcoming meetup was held inside the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area. Lucky that I was in the area, I signed up for the group and as well as for the meetup. After a short contact with the organizer of the event, Chris Doering, I got the GPS coordinates for the meetup spot inside this huge area.

Thanks to the GPS coordinates, getting there was no problem and I found the group very quick. Chris Jeep had written “LANDOPS” very big onto the side of the vehicle.

After everybody got there we started up with a little introduction. First Chris presented the group and what it is all about and after that everybody introduced themselves really quick.

This meetup was ment for beginners in off-roading and should show some basics in how to drive and control the vehicle. Chris explained everything very well, as well as all the inputs of the other group members.

Right next to our meeting place was a 4×4 practice track. Here we could try out our vehicles and got instructions how to do the certain tracks right. It was fun driving up and down the little hills with the various tracks.

A couple of the group also practiced winching their vehicles. It was just simulated brake-down, but it helped a lot to actually show how to do it once you get stuck somewhere. It was great information and very helpful about what you can do with your little rig-mounted winch.

The Landops do a lot of so-called “Ops” which are extended drives into remote areas with different tasks to carry out. You can find out more on the Landops website.
