Today, May 3rd, 15 years ago, the first geocache was hidden. Back then it was called a GPS stash and Dave Ulmer was the guy who hid it. The original cache is not around anymore. At the location is now a plaque dedicated to the first stash ever hidden. What better way is there to celebrate 15 years of Geocaching as finding the Original Stash.
I went out this weekend to find this “First Stash”, which is located near Portland, Oregon. Once arrived at the coordinates the plaque was found very quick.
For finding a cache this weekend and for finding the original stash I got a souvenir.
With the 15-year anniversary souvenir, you get your summer road trip mission for 2015. You have to find specific caches in different timespans to get additional souvenirs. If you find all five of them you earn an additional sixth one. Read more about it on the Geocaching Blog.
Here are the dates and guests you have to solve to get the souvenirs. The quest period ends at September 2, 2015.
- June 19: Find a geocache with 10 or more Favorite Points
- July 3: Attend an Event, Mega-Event or Giga-Event
- July 17: Find a T5 or D5 geocache
- July 31: Find an EarthCache or attend a CITO
- August 14: Find a Mystery Cache
