Bürs is a small town not far away from the German border, maybe 30-40 minutes driving. It is very gorgeous here, especially during summer and winter time. If you ever come here you have to visit “Bürser Schlucht”. It is a nice little trail which is about 5km long and takes about 2 hours. Let’s go check it out…just read the full article.

You can start your hike at the trailhead near the old power plant. There are also parking spots available and the hike will bring you right back to this point on a loop trail. To get there just follow the signs “Bürser Schlucht”

Right in the middle of the valley flows the river “Alvier”. The trails are well prepared and it is easy to hike along. It is also an educational trail, where you can learn how the valley was formed and history about the area there. Unfortunately, it is only in German. If you don’t speak German, bring your translator. 😉 There are plenty of benches and tables along your way and if you like you can even BBQ right along the trail, there are a couple of spots. You can’t miss them.

There are everywhere signs, so you can’t get lost. Same parts of the trail are very steep but just take your time and you can make it, even if you are not in perfect shape.

There are three bridges crossing the river again and again and you get an unbelievable view of the valley.

Shortly before the trail along the river ends you will get a stunning view of a nice big waterfall. Make sure you bring your camera and take some pictures.

On the end of the trail there is a pole with an aluminum box and inside you can find a stamp. If you collect that kind of “souvenirs” be sure to bring your Logbook. Once there you half-way through. Now you have to walk up a pretty steep walkway. But you will get up there pretty fast. It isn’t that long and once up there the trail will turn back into a nice pathway again.

Along the pathway, you will see the “Schrunden”. Because on some points the ground wasn’t getting very solid and that’s why parts of the ground were sliding down into the valley and open up this deep “holes”. Be careful along them, there are no handrails and you can slip very easily. Make sure you always follow the sign I have posted a little further up in this post, to get back to your vehicle.

Another highlight of this trip will be the “Kuhloch”. It was built over a couple of decades/centuries by the water which was flowing through here during the late ice age.

Follow the walkway and a little further down you will hit a road which leads back to Bürs but keep following the signs. This is a shortcut compare to walking along the road. Once you hit the road, you can see in an open area a very old and big tree. The “Kaisereiche”.

Along the way back to Bürs you will get a nice view of Bürs and the mountains in the background and you will cross the “Alvier” one more time in the city.

I enjoyed the hike and took a lot of pictures, which you can find in my Flickr gallery. This pictures here are only a small part of it.
