If you arrive by car. There is an area right in front of the hotel where you can stop to check-in. The parking garage is on the other side of the hotel. The staff will tell you how to get there. The garage has also three entrances. I almost missed the first one and didn’t know that there are two more entrances. However, they are not connected. If one is full, you can try another one. During my visit, all of the garages were at least half empty. The garages also have electric vehicle charging ports. Sadly, sometimes people without an EV park there and block the space even tho the rest of the garage is empty. Besides people parking in the Electric Vehicle charging stations you might also encounter parking pros as I did. One did such a great job, he parked right in the middle of two parking spots. I am having a hard time doing that, I always end up between the white lines instead of dead nuts center on them. 😉
Check-In
Check-In was quick and easy and the staff member was very welcoming. He explained all the features of the hotel and gave me my parking pass which also has a map how to get to the garage on the back.
I grabbed my car and went to the backside of the hotel. The entrance is a little bit hard to see if its dark and it is your first time here. Drive slowly down the road and watch the entrances coming up. There is a small Best Western sign. From all 2 garage levels, an elevator connects to the guest rooms. My room was on the third floor which is lobby level and street entrance. The third floor is the only floor which has stairs on either side of the wing. Means you have to lift your bag up a couple of stairs and get around the corner to the hallway and get back down. It’s the same for the breakfast room. If you can’t make the stairs, tell the staff and they will deliver the breakfast to your room.
Two Queen-Beds Room
My room was 317. The vintage interior fitted the room and hotel. My room had a view of the pool. A small kitchenette and a small desk. The desk is not really made as a work desk but I moved the phone out of the way and gained some space on it.
The kitchen had a small refrigerator and trash bin in the cabinet. On the wall was a flat-screen TV and below it a dresser to store your clothing. The wall towards the hallway had a closet with a safe in it.
The bathroom was big enough and had quite a big shower. Bigger than I expected initially.
Public Areas
The courtyard of the hotel is beautiful. It has a big heated pool in the center of it. The pool is located on the first floor. It’s a nice area to hang out and relax. The area is very tranquil and has a lot of seating options. The vending machines are located on the first floor as well.
The fitness center is located on the second floor. It’s small but has ways to get your workout done.
The guest laundry is located on the second garage level (G2).
Dining
The Breakfast Room is behind the lobby. There is a small room in front of the breakfast room. It has a PC with printer and flyers for attractions. There is also coffee available here all day long for free.
The breakfast was good but I expected a bit more. The eggs were pretty tasteless but the rest of the items were ok. I think I got spoiled with the awesome breakfast I had the week before at the Hyatt Regency LAX.
There was plenty of seating available but it seems the hotel was not fully booked. I discovered a second breakfast room on the fourth floor, but that seems to be reserved for occupants of that floor only.
If you are hungry later on in the day, there are a ton of restaurants close by and along Sunset Blvd. You can find everything from cheap to super exclusive restaurants. There is a good place almost right across the street from the hotel. I liked Carney’s a lot. You will dine in an old train wagon and they have delicious burgers, hot dogs and fries for a great price as well. You should check them out.
Vicinity
There is a lot to do and see around the hotel. A lot is in walking distance even tho the hotel can also rent a car for you. Not only restaurants also bars, nightclubs, and even a strip club is just a block down the street. The hotel gives you discounts for some sightseeing tours and attractions. Just ask at the front desk and make sure you sign up early enough for a tour. You will get picked up right in front of the hotel.
Conclusion
I enjoyed my stay here even tho it was for work and not pleasure. The room was quiet and I had a good sleep. The hotel staff was super friendly including housekeeping. The only thing the could improve in my eyes would be the breakfast. I really loved the old vintage design and look of the hotel. It was a different feeling than staying at a modern hotel. Everything just fits in like the fireplace in the lobby.
