I was looking for a good property to redeem my Suite Upgrade Award and found the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco. The Grand Hyatt is just located north of Union Square, San Francisco’s premier shopping area. I was checking for a couple of days to find a property with available suites and had luck at the Grand Hyatt. It didn’t show any update all day, but the night before my planned check-in date a suite became available and I immediately called Hyatt Gold Passport to book my room and use my Suite Upgrade Award. I had to wait for about 30 minutes on the phone before I got to talk to a representative and was able to secure my room and my upgrade. I was so excited about that because it was my first time I used the Suite Upgrade Award and then at such a great property, where rooms usually go for about $800 USD / night during the week. My rate was $209/night which I had to pay and got upgraded to a suite.
It also looks like suites are hardly available here. I arrived for a check-in after 8 p.m. at the Grand Hyatt. Traffic was no problem at that time, but there was a construction site right next to the hotel. They blocked part of the street, but that helped park in front of the main entrance of the hotel to get checked in.
When I got checked in, Hyatt surprised me again and upgraded my Executive Suite to a Premier Suite.
The Bellman helped to unload my Ford Mustang and was surprised how much bags I was able to fit in this small sports car. I self-parked my car, which is $41/night (including taxes) compared to §67,26 for valet.
After that, I went up to my room on the 33rd (Room 3312) floor and wondered why my room key had two room numbers on it. I entered my room through the main entrance, it seemed.
I dropped my bags and checked out this amazing suite. Shortly after I began to wonder where the bed would be. For that price, you shouldn’t sleep on a sofa.
There was a door to an adjoining room, but it was locked. The room next to it had the second room number on my key card envelope. So I called the front desk and supposedly my keycard should open both doors, which it didn’t. They sent up a set of new keys to my room and I was able to unlock the “second” room, which was actually my bedroom.
I unlocked the door between the rooms and enjoyed the view of the San Francisco skyline by night and went to bet shortly after.
When I woke up the next morning, I had an amazing view of the sunrise in San Francisco. My room was facing east and gave me a view of the sunrise like I never have seen it before. There were some low clouds this morning over San Francisco, which disappeared quickly and it became a beautiful day in mid-February.
The suite is huge with its approx. 960 square feet of space. The main living room is huge, it has a large flatscreen TV with surround sound and comfortable seating. On the other end a dining table with seating for ten people. The suite has a guest bathroom with a shower, a large coat closet, and a wet bar with kitchenette and butler access. An interesting fact is that only two of the three doors entering this suite have a safety latch. The butler access door has no safety latch for whatever reason.
As a Diamond Hyatt Goldpassport Member, you get premium internet access after entering your last name and room number.
The Grand Club is located on the 32nd floor, just one floor below me. At the Grand Club, you get free breakfast and other amenities throughout the day. Like coffee, drinks, cookies, and many more. There are two PC’s in the Grand Club and a printer for your use. The Grand Club also features some great views of the city and the San Francisco Bay. I love the tables right by the window but they are favored by everyone.
Another great amenity is the Fitness Center on the 35th floor. A lot of workout equipment and you can have a great view during your workout as well. I love this hotel.
OneUp is the on-property restaurant and lounge. If you are not a Diamond Hyatt Goldpassport member or haven’t booked a Club Room, you will get your breakfast here. They serve lunch and dinner as well. Their favorite here is the Ramen Burger. It’s usually crowded here during dinner time.
On the lobby level, you will find chairs, tables, and comfortable seating areas to hang out and mingle. There is a coffee bar in the lobby, which is open during breakfast.
The Grand Hyatt has a lot of conference and meeting rooms. Many of them are down below at the two-story basement and more are found on the 36th floor. From the 36th floor, you have a great view of the bay as well.
This was by far the most amazing hotel stay I had and especially the suite was amazing. All the employees take pride in their work and always smile and are happy to help and assist you. I loved that and made me feel home and welcome. The only thing missing at this hotel is a heated rooftop pool 🙂
