Hotel Indigo left IHG and is now an independent hotel known as the “Miami Lakes Hotel and Golf”. It was a great hotel and I always had good times there while staying at this hotel for the last 3 years.

I am currently visiting Miami and I chose the Hotel Indigo in Miami Lakes as my hotel. I needed some more nights for the current “share forever” promotion from IHG. That was one reason to stay here, the other one was the price and that I have never stayed at that brand before. I arrived a little bit before 3 pm, the official check-in time. I was checked in quickly and they explained the amenities and layouts of the hotel to me.

After checking in I headed right to my room and was surprised by it. My room came with two double beds and was very spacious. I expected something small.

But on the other side, there is not a lot inside the room. No stand for my bag and most important for the Miami heat, no refrigerator. However, you can request a refrigerator at the front desk. If they have one available they will deliver it to your room, I got a small mini-refrigerator, but it was good enough for my needs. The air-condition also has no automatic-mode for the fan. It’s either off or at a preset stage. You will actually want the A/C to be on to cool the room down to be able to sleep. That means there will be always the noise of the fan running. It’s not too bad and didn’t give me any trouble.

The bathroom is a bit smaller than expected and also not a lot of space to put your toiletries. But I liked the shower installation. Outside the bathroom, right at the entrance area of the room, is a little table with a coffee maker, ice bucket, and two glasses.

Another unexpected surprise, there is no carpet in the whole room. There are tiles where you enter the room and the “bedroom” section is layout out with laminate. I liked it and it was in no way a negative point for the room.

I had a direct view of the pool from my room. If you spend a lot of time in your room during the day, you might want to get a room facing away from the pool. This hotel seems to be favored by families and kids could get a bit loud at the pool. But there were no issues during the night-time. Every day I stayed there it was quiet around 8 pm. Also, you could try to get a room with a balcony. They all have views of the pool.

The pool area is nice with a lot of chairs and tables to sit there and relax. Right outside the pool is a tiki with tables inside and some around it. Great to enjoy your breakfast or dinner.

However, there is no breakfast buffet served here, it is a la carte and only a very small selection. Same for dinner, only a small selection but bigger portions. I loved their BBQ Chicken Pizza. You should try it. If you want you can dine inside at the Cafe. It’s cool inside and the dining area is right behind the lobby. The lobby is spacious and also gives you areas to sit down and hang out. Besides that, you have the conference room and the business center right next to the main entrance of the lobby.

The gym is small and is located at the ground level of the building next to the lobby. Also, there is only one elevator for all buildings. If you have to use it a lot, try to get a room close to the elevator or at ground level. But you can access all three buildings with this elevator. They are all connected but you will have to use your room key to enter each individual building. Good for safety but not if you have to bring up a couple of bags and go back and forth 😉

You also have a small tropical “jungle” between the different buildings, which is pretty cool. You even have “wildlife” here, I saw some squirrels running around.

Right behind Hotel Indigo is the Don Shula’s Golf Club and the Shula’s Steak House. Both buildings are connected directly to the hotel. There is no direct passageway from the hotel to Shula’s Steak House. The steakhouse is supposed to be one of the best in the Miami area. There is another one in Key Largo on your way to Key West.

Overall it was a very pleasant stay. I was spending most of the time away from the hotel. If you look for a family get-away and some good rates for a good hotel, you are in the best hands here. But there is nothing really close around here if you want to do any activities or visit places you will probably need a car or go by taxi or Uber. Of course, if you are here to play Golf, this is the hotel to go to.

Below some pictures of my room during my second stay here. I got the Executive Room which was quite spacious and located at the corner of the building. It was very quiet and if you are here for business, that’s probably the way to go. You don’t hear any noise coming from the pool area.

Guests enjoy complimentary access to Shula’s athletic club & spa. Located just 5 minutes away from the Hotel Indigo, the 44,000 square foot facility offers yoga, pilates, spinning, kick-boxing, child-care, full cardio-theatre and 9 tennis (5 hard / 4 clay).
