The Admirals Club is easy to find. This was my first time ever I visited an Admirals Club. I got granted access because of my upcoming international trip in first class. I showed the agent my boarding pass and ID and got granted access to the lounge. She handed me a card with the WiFi-password, voucher for a premium drink, and an invite to the International First Class Dining Experience.

After passing the entrance I headed straight to the elevator to get up to the lounge. It was around eleven o’clock in the morning and the lounge was already quite full. I managed to score a spot on the window and then settled for one of the cubicles at the far end of the lounge to set up my laptop and get some work done. The business area at the far end was the only real spot to set up a laptop. The other tables are too low and sometimes don’t have power outlets. Some of the cubicles offer a PC ready to use and some are empty to set up your own laptop. They have printers also ready and instructions how to print from them. Next to the cubicles are two conference room you can rent, both were in use during my visit.

The lounge has a bar and two places to grab some snacks and coffee. I had some cheese cubes while working and a coffee. One of the staff came by and asked me if she could pick up my empty cup while checking the other cubicles.

Around 1 p.m. I headed over to the First Class Dining Area to get some food. I showed the host at the entrance my invite and she also wanted to double check my boarding pass, which was not a big deal. Inside is free seating wherever you can find an open table. They had a small buffet with soups, cheese, meats and some baby ribs. Besides that of course salad and bread. A waiter came by and asked me what I want to drink and I decided to go with white wine. You have the choice between juices, wines, champagne, and everything they have available at the bar. I almost got too late for the lunch menu. Shortly after they took away the ribs, which were really delicious.

Normally only International First Class Passengers have access to this lounge. However, if you are an Executive Platinum Member, you can dine here as well. No matter of what fare you booked as long as you travel internationally. It’s the easiest for OneWorld Emerald Status holders. They can dine here no matter if they connect international or national and no matter of what class they fly.

After finishing lunch I went outside to make space for other people to come in and dine. I sat down at one of the comfortable sofas near the window. From there you have a good view of the runway and gates.

Reception and Flight Monitors

They have a tablet on the desk next to the seats to check flight status and browse the web. However, you need to enter the WiFi password to use them. They should be automatically connected to the net without any further interaction.

If you walk to the elevator from the bar and pass it, there is more seating available and it’s more secluded. Lot’s of empty space there and a TV as well. Next to the bar are more PC’s ready to use. Close by are chairs to lay down and relax along the wall. It’s a bit darker there and helps you to catch a nap.

Far end of the Admirals Club.

The lounge experience was great but they can’t compete with one of the American Express Centurion Lounges. They have just the best food in any of the U.S. lounges. The lounge is huge and has space to accommodate a lot of passengers compared to other airline lounges. It’s definitely great to hang out here and mingle before a flight.

The problem I see with Admirals Clubs is that even tho they are owned and operated by American Airlines, their own frequent flyers get the least of benefits here. Which is sad after the swapped to a revenue-based loyalty program. So you spend now more money to earn status and still don’t get any lounge access if you only fly national.
