American Airlines operates its own lounge in London Heathrow Terminal 3. The lounge has a common entrance for the Admirals Club and the International First Class lounge. The first class lounge can be accessed as a First Class passenger, Concierge Key holder, oneworld Emerald or American Executive Status level. Once through the entrance, show your boarding pass to a lounge desk staff and they will open the door to the first class portion of the lounge via a button. Walk through the frosted doors on your right to get to the First Class area. American Airlines is revamping their lounge experience and the new premium experience is called Flagship Lounge. This lounge is due to upgrade in 2018 to a Flagship Lounge.
The lounge is located in the hallway to Gates 13 – 22 just off the main terminal shopping area. It can be reached easily from the flight connections in Terminal 3 or after you get through security in Terminal 3. Just look for gates 13 – 22.

The lounge is quite spacious and offers First Class Dining. The food menu is posted at the entrance to their dining area which features nice dining tables. As it was still early in the day, they only posted the breakfast menu. The menu is quite extensive for a lounge and it really elevates the travel experience.
If you are not in the mood for the big dining experience or don’t have enough time, you can take some snacks from the big buffet in the center of the lounge. They offered an amazing selection of breakfast foods. As well they have coffee, wine, spirits and other non-alcoholic beverages right next to the buffet. As my time was rather limited this time, I enjoyed the great buffet.
Next, to the dining area, are two movie rooms. One has dining tables and the other once comfortable chairs. Both of them were empty during my visit. I wonder how much people make use of this places anymore as there are now all of our digital devices to watch movies and news. It will be also exciting to see what will happen to this areas after the Flagship-makeover.
The First Class lounge has plenty of seating available. Seating around the buffet comes with dining tables as most others areas are just comfy chairs with some small tables or stands next to them. At the far end of the lounge is an elevated seating area with windows. Unfortunately, the views out of the lounge are not very exciting. It’s basically just to bring some light into the lounge as you don’t see the tarmac or anything interesting. Near the stairs to the elevated seating areas is a rack with newspapers and magazines. The whole lounge has too much brown and beige colors which let the lounge look outdated and old. I am sure this will change to a nice glossy white after the makeover. I like the new style of American Airlines Flagship Lounges.
There are four computers located on the upper level with a printer. Great if you have to do some last minute printing. But nowadays not as usual anymore as it used to be. Free Wi-Fi is available for everyone in the lounge. Just connect to the network and open your browser to accept the terms and conditions. They also will make boarding announcements but the PA system was down during my visit. However, they had a staff member going through the lounge and calling out the flights which are boarding. The flight monitor is located right next to the entrance into the first class portion of the lounge.
Conclusion
The staff was very friendly and service was great. Buffet got restocked regularly and tables got cleaned quickly for new guests to arrive and enjoy the lounge. I am really excited to see the lounge after the Flagship upgrade. I only had about half an hour to enjoy the lounge as I was on a short layover in LHR continuing to LAX. The lounge is in good proximity to the gates but its still quite a walk to get there.
