It’s Tuesday morning and I just spent a night at the newly Holiday Inn Frankfurt Airport. It was my first time here and you can read up about it with the link above. I am all set to hop on board the 777 to fly to Dallas/Ft. Worth. The shuttle bus brought me to Terminal 2 where I first had to find the location of the American Airlines check-in counter. Unfortunately, it’s a very big terminal hall with no signs where the different airlines are. American Airlines was, of course, the last counter I checked but I was still happy to find them. I checked-in and headed through passport control. From there I followed the signs to Japan Airlines Lounge. The lounge is before the security checkpoint but after the passport control. Means, without a ticket you won’t get to the lounge.
This lounge is the partner lounge of American Airlines. My agent already told me during check-in about this lounge, when she saw I was traveling First Class.
I entered the lounge and checked in. Check in was again quick and easy and I grabbed my bag and walked into the lounge. Surprisingly I was the first guest here this morning and that at around 7:30 a.m. The lounge opens at 5:30 a.m. and I sitting in the lounge alone. This was perfect to walk around and take pictures of the lounge without disturbing anyone.
The lounge has only a view of the streets and no tarmac view. In front of the windows are chairs to lay down and relax. The main area has a variety of seating options with tables to enjoy your snacks or work with your PC. If you walk in, to the left you find the “business” area with a long desk along the wall with plenty of power outlets and seats. There are numerous placards throughout the lounge with instructions how to use the WiFi network.
Due to the morning hour, breakfast got served at the buffet bar. They had traditional German foods for breakfast which I enjoyed a lot. Besides the food, there was plenty to drink. Everything from soft drinks, coffee, continuing on to the hard liquors.
I myself had some food and a coffee because I skipped breakfast at the hotel and watched the news on the big screen TV in the middle of the lounge.
One highlight in this lounge are the Japanese Toilets. If you never experienced them, you should check them out. It’s different to what you know about toilets. The toilet seats offer the full “program of service”.
Overall it was a great stay in this lounge to relax before boarding my plane at gate D4, which was very close but unfortunately I still had to clear security before I was able to board. Keep that in mind if you are using the lounge.
