If you are at Munich Airport and have some time to kill, why not check out the Visitors Terrace. The Terrace is located in Terminal 2 on Level 7 and offers an outstanding view of the eastern apron, both runways and the construction site of the new satellite facility.

The Terminal 2 Satellite is scheduled to open in April 2016 and the airport is currently running trial operations.

Along the glass front of the Visitors Terrace are telescopes for a closer look of whats happening on the tarmac.

You can reach the Visitors Terrace from Level 05 (public area) of Terminal 2. Follow the signs upstairs and up to a skywalk. Handicapped guests can use the elevator to get there. From this glass tunnel you have a great view of the security checkpoint and passport control with the new automated passport control system.

From the skywalk you will reach the outside located terrace and depending on the current weather you want to bring an umbrella or jacket. There is no roof above the terrace just a net for safety reasons. The area is about 9000 sq. ft. in size and features an exhibition of the Terminal 2 Satellite Construction Project at the northern end.

Already along the skywalk and around the visitors terrace are Info Boards, with additional information about what you can see from that point.

The entrance is free of charge and the terrace is open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Photo Tip:

To take great pictures make sure to bring a polarizer for your camera to get rid of the reflections in the windows. If you don’t have a polarizer for your camera handy, get as close as possible to the glass and cover any possible opening with your hand. Smartphone users can hold their Smartphones all the way against the window to minimize the reflections. This small tricks will give you better photos with less reflection.

Visitors Park:

If you have even more time to kill, consider touring the Visitor Park. There is plenty to do and see, like old historic planes, an Airport Souvenir Shop and a Visitor Hill. From atop of the 172 step and 28m high hill you have a panoramic view of the airport and runways. However you will have to spend 1 Euro before you can start your journey to the top of the hill. To get there take the S-Bahn rail rink (S1 or S8) from the Airport Center and exit at the “Besucherpark” Station. More about the Visitors Park in another post.
