Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most famous castles in the world. Every year many thousand visitors come here to see and explore the castle. It is really an amazing area. That’s a place you should have seen once in your lifetime. It is very gorgeous around here especially on a sunny day either in the winter or summer time.
Unfortunately, as for right now, parts of the castle are wrapped with scaffolding for renovation work on the castle. But it is still a beautiful area and an amazing adventure to get here and visit the castle.
Some tips for you if you plan to visit the castle:
Make sure you book your tickets a day before you will visit the castle. You can do this by visiting the ticket-center homepage, but you have to do it before 3 pm local time in Germany. Because there is most of the time a big queue in front of the ticket counter. If you got there with no reservation, you can try to go up to the castle (for normal people should be a walking time of 30 minutes) and go into the inner courtyard and on your right-hand side, you will see an information desk. Go there and play lost and most of the time you can buy the ticket there too and there shouldn’t be a lot of people there.
Once you got your tour ticket, make sure you get there in time, because you have to go with the tour you booked. There are guided tours available in English, German and Italian. For other languages, you can book a tour with an audio guide. You will get this one, once you enter the building after the tour started.
Make sure, you visit “Marienbrücke” either before or after your tour. You will have a stunning view of the castle and the “Pöllachschlucht” with the waterfall. On the way to Marienbrücke, you will get to a scenic lookout where you can see the “Hohenschwangau” castle. This one is also worth a visit if you have enough time. You can buy a discounted ticket for both castles.
My tip for everyone is, walk up to the castle and explore the vicinity. Don’t take the bus, because you will miss a lot of the nice walk. There is also a horse carriage available if you would like to use this transportation method. But remember there is a charge for the horse carriage and the bus, only walking is for free 😉
