I received an e-mail today from my favorite lounge program – Priority Pass. The e-mail shared some unfortunate news about increased fees for paid lounge visits. The financial institutions who give out Priority Pass as a perk, are responsible for letting their customers know when they have to expect the price increase.
But relax, your complimentary visits will still be free and you won’t have to pay any additional fee. Priority Pass will only raise the prices for paid visits $32 per visit per person. For example when you bring a buddy with your Priority Pass in the lounge with you.
The new and increased fees will go into effect for American Express customers on October 1st, 2018. More information can be found on the Priority Pass website. According to Priority Pass, this is the first price increase within the last 10 years.
Priority Pass is a great lounge program, with over 1200 lounges worldwide. In the recent months, even restaurants got added to the Priority Pass benefit to counteract overcrowding of lounges. For example, you can visit the Corona Beach House inside the Miami International Airport or Timberline Steaks & Grille in Denver’s airport. While visiting show your card and you get credit towards your food and beverage purchases. Check the ToS for each lounge to make sure, what is covered and what not. For example, ‘To-Go Orders’ and ‘D Bar French Macarons’ are not covered with your lounge credit at the Timberline Steaks and Grille.
Many new lounges got added in the recent months, however, some also left the program. All Alaska Airlines Lounges at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport won’t be accessible anymore with your Priority Pass as of September 1, 2018. Also, one of my favorite lounges at London-Heathrow can’t be accessed with Priority Pass anymore. The United Club in Terminal 2.
Further on, the email hints that Priority Pass has some exciting announcements to make very soon. What would that be? Some new lounges or restaurants joining the program? Maybe benefits even outside the airport? Let’s wait what they have thought up for us. Stay tuned!
