On the way back from the New Years and skiing vacation, my friends and I made a stopover in Salzburg, Austria. The city was directly on our route towards Munich and I haven’t been to Salzburg in ages. Even that we spent only a couple of hours there, it was amazing to see the historic city and the fortress up on the mountain.
We visited the Salzburger Dom, an amazing cathedral in Salzburg. Admission is free, but they ask you for a small donation.
We only had about 3 hours to spend there but it was worth it. We walked around the old historic district but there was not enough time to make it up to the fortress. Maybe next time.
Even the parking garage is amazing. It’s a big tunnel in the rock and you will park in there. From there you take a small passageway directly into the old and historic part of the city. I was truly impressed. If you shop anywhere in the old historic part of the city, ask the cashier to stamp your parking ticket, which saves you a big amount of the fee. Because it’s not cheap to park there.
Salzburg is definitely worth a visit and I try to get back here. See more pictures in my Flickr-album.
