Booking & Stay Details
I was looking for a hotel near my project side in Surrey, Canada. Initially, I hoped to find a Hyatt hotel, but the closest hotel is the Hyatt Regency Vancouver which is just too far away from the project for a daily commute. Alternatively, I found the Four Points by Sheraton Surrey which is closer to my project site.
I booked two days before my planned arrival at the hotel but had to change the check-in date on the day of arrival as a snowstorm in Seattle disrupted my travel plans and I couldn’t make it there on the day of check-in. The hotel didn’t hesitate to change the check-in date to the next day without any fees.
Location
The Four Points by Sheraton Surrey is located in the northeastern part of the city. It is located close to the Trans-Canada Highway. Across the street is the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Surrey. There is also a bus stop in front of the hotel on 104th Avenue.
Parking
Parking is complimentary at the property. There is even underground parking. I was so excited when the agent told me about the underground parking, as it would save me time if it snowed overnight as I don’t have to clean off my car of the snow. Unfortunately, the hotel got a small snowplow, and it ran over the post with the keycard reader for the parking garage.
Check-In
From the Canada-USA border crossing it is only about a 30-minute drive to the Four Points by Sheraton Surrey.
During the check-in, I got a choice of these welcome gifts
- free breakfast
- pantry item
- welcome points
At the same time, I also got the sad news that the hotel’s restaurant is closed and that their breakfast offering would be a “continental” to-go bag. More about that later. Because of that, and that I might have to leave before breakfast hours, I picked the welcome points. As usual, there was no note on the website or app about the closed restaurant. Which I find super annoying and misleading to customers.
After receiving my room keys, I walked up the ramp to the elevator to drop my bags in my room.
1 King Bed, Suite (Room 306)
The suite is located at the end of the hallway. As you enter the suite you step into the living room area.
This large part of the suite comes with a sofa bed, sofa chair, cocktail table, and a wall-mounted TV. Below the TV is a larger work desk with an office chair.
There is a little kitchenette in the corner of the living area. It comes with a medium-sized refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and sink. The kitchenette cabinets are empty and there are no plates or silverware. Next to the kitchenette is a door that leads to the bedroom.
The immediate area around the kitchenette has a tiled floor, while the rest of the living area has a carpeted floor. There is a small piece of laminate flooring at the main door. I love this as I can take off my shoes here before I drag snow and rainwater into the rest of the room and wet the carpet.
There are two windows in the living room area which face out to the back of the property. Each of the windows comes with a sunshade and black-out shade. The air conditioning unit is located under the left window, next to the kitchenette. The A/C can be controlled with the wall-mounted remote located next to the room door.
There is a door from the living room area to access the bathroom. The bathroom has a small vanity with a single sink and a wall-mounted mirror with the toilet next to it. At the other end of the bathroom is a walk-in shower with wall-mounted soap dispensers.
From here you have another door that leads into the bedroom. The bedroom features a king-sized bed with a nightstand on either side. The only power outlets near the beds are the built-in outlets into the alarm clock. A wall-mounted TV is located opposite the bed and a dresser is below it. There is also a larger wall closet which has two large double doors. Unfortunately, one of the doors, if left open, will block access to the bathroom.
Two windows are in the bedroom. One large one, faces out towards the back, the same way as the ones in the living room. The other, but smaller, window faces towards the side street next to the hotel.
Warning: Bedroom A/C Unit
The A/C unit is mounted underneath the larger window facing out towards the back of the hotel. There is a remote control mounted right next to the bedroom door. However, this remote is fake. You can change settings, but it doesn’t change the actual A/C. It took me a while before I found out. I even opened the sliding part of the window to get cooler air in, but it was still hot at night, and I couldn’t sleep well. It took me until the next day when I turned off the A/C from the remote and it was still blowing. I checked the little lid on the A/C itself and there was the problem. The controls have not been linked and you can only control it straight from the A/C unit itself, not with the remote.
Public Areas & Amenities
Lobby
The lobby is beautiful and invites people to hang out. Besides the area around the front desk to check in, there is a small room to the side with lots of comfortable chairs and tables.
Business Center
A small business center is in the same room next to the main lobby area as mentioned above. It comes with two workstations and a printer.
Fitness Center
The fitness center of the Four Points by Sheraton Surrey is located at the end of the main hallway in the lobby when you head up the ramp. You need your room key to open the door. Inside the fitness center, you find enough equipment for a good workout. The fitness center also had a door that leads outside to the outdoor swimming pool.
Hours: 24/7
Pool and Whirlpool
The hotel has an outside swimming pool and whirlpool which is located at the back of the hotel. You can access it through the fitness center or the small hallway next to the fitness center. Signs mark the way to get there. You will need your room key to access the pool area.
Unfortunately, the pool area was closed for the season as winter is here and quite a bit of snow is already covering the ground in the city.
Dining
Breakfast
Breakfast would be served at the Citrus Bar & Grill, but the restaurant is closed. The agent at the front desk didn’t give me a particular reason why when I inquired about it. Instead, they offer some to-go boxes. A menu is displayed at the front desk. You can order the night before and it will be ready for pickup in the morning. When you order in the morning it will take about 20 minutes to prepare your choice.
Each to-go bag comes with juice, pastry, yogurt, granola bars, and two pieces of fruit.
Citrus Bar & Grill
This is the on-site restaurant at the Four Points by Sheraton Surrey. Unfortunately, it was closed during my whole stay.
Conclusion
It was a great stay. I really got to know the staff and they already knew my breakfast order after a few days. Everyone was super nice which made me feel even more welcome. Towards the end of the stay, the hotel started renovation on my floor and for a few days, I had the whole floor to myself. All other guests would stay on a different floor. This hotel shouldn’t be overlooked if you need a place to stay in the area. Lots of times, the rates are not much cheaper than the nearby Sheraton hotel, but the complimentary parking for everyone is a game changer and safes you a lot of money.
