Booking & Stay Details

I was heading to Houston for business and needed to go near The Woodlands area. As Hyatt is still running its Bonus Journey promotion where you get 3.000 bonus points every two nights, I was looking for a Hyatt property to stay. Also, I want to requalify for Globalist this year and need a few more nights to do so. There is a Hyatt House, a Hyatt Place, and a Hyatt Centric in the area. The rate for the Hyatt Centric was definitely too high at over $250. I decided to go with the Hyatt House as I can avoid freeways to get to the office and are actually on the same side. of the freeway to get to it. The stay was booked through the Hyatt app on my smartphone.

Location

The Hyatt House The Woodlands / Shenandoah is located in Metropark Square and is steps away from great dining, entertainment, and shopping venues. It is near to the I-45 which will take you straight into Downtown Houston. It is about a 30-minute drive to Downtown Houston or George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). It is about 45 minutes from William P. Hobby Airport (HOU).

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces around the building. The main parking area is behind the hotel by the pool area. The hotel has a great back entrance with automatic sliding doors. Parking is complimentary for all guests.

Shuttle Service

No hotel shuttle is available.

Check-In

Check-in was quick and easy as always. I showed my ID and credit card and had my room keys in hand within a few minutes. I also got told a few important pieces of information about the hotel and amenities and the location of the elevators. Elevators are located behind the front desk, and you can use either hallway next to the front desk to get to it.

Check-In: 3 p.m.
Check-Out: 11 a.m.

One Bedroom Kitchen Suite | King Bed (plus sofa bed) (Room 313)

As you walk into the suite, you stand in the living room and kitchen area. The kitchen is to your left. It is a fully stocked kitchen and comes with everything you need to prepare meals like a full-size refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, and kitchen sink. A kitchen island doubles as preparation space for food as well as a dining table and work desk as there are highchairs on one side and an office chair on the other. Unfortunately, that way you can’t leave your computer set up if you want to prepare meals or use it as a dining table. The kitchen area had a hardwood floor while the rest of the suite was carpeted.

Past the kitchen area is the living room area. It comes with an L-shaped sofa bed and two sitting cubes. Across from the sofa is a TV on top of a small shelf.  There is also a small window with solar shades and a blackout curtain. The room overlooks the parking lot in the back and the pool area. A door in the living room area opens into the bedroom.

Kitchen Table and Living Room Area

Inside the bedroom, you have a King-sized bed. On one side of the bed, you have a normal nightstand while the other side uses a dresser as a nightstand. Power outlets are available at the base of the lights on the nightstand on either side. The bedroom also has a small wall closet that holds the iron, and an ironing board and hangers for your clothes. Opposite the closet is another dresser which also doubles as a suitcase stand.

The bathroom is separated by a sliding door from the bedroom. Inside is a small vanity with a single sink and a wall-mounted mirror. In the bathroom, there is also a shower with two glass sliding doors.

There is a larger window in the bedroom than in the living room, but it overlooks the same area – the parking lot in the back and the pool area. The room is also located right on the inside corner of the L-shaped building.

Public Areas & Amenities

Lobby

The hotel has a large hobby. Most of it is part of the dining area for breakfast and the H-Bar but you can also use it during the day to hang out and meet up. There are more seating options on the opposite side of the lobby of the H-Bar. There is also an ATM in the lobby.

Lobby and Bar Area

Business Center

There is a business center in the corner of the lobby. It comes with two workstations and a printer for complimentary use.

Fitness Center

The fitness center is near the back entrance of the hotel. It has a broad selection of workout equipment.

Pool

This hotel has an amazing outdoor pool area. You need your room key to enter the pool area. It comes with a large pool and a large whirlpool. The best part about the whirlpool is that it is raised slightly and “overflows” with a small waterfall into the pool. Around the pool are plenty of pool chaise loungers and pool tables with chairs and umbrellas. Perfect for hanging out and relaxing.

Guest Laundry

The Hyatt House The Woodlands / Shenandoah has a guest laundry facility, which is located on the fourth floor. You need your room key to get into the laundry room. Inside you find two washers and dryers as well as a dispenser for laundry detergent. All of it is coin-operated, unfortunately. You can get change at the front desk if you need it. A load in the washer or dryer costs $2.50 each.
Unfortunately, the Hyatt House here doesn’t offer a dry-cleaning service.

Housekeeping

It’s your choice. The hotel offers daily housekeeping, or you can opt out or schedule housekeeping the day before you want it. It is up to you. You can always call the front desk if you need anything like towels.

Dining

Breakfast

The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast buffet for guests. It is a pretty good spread with scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns, or French toast. Besides that, you get the usual stuff like juices, fruits, cereals, toast, and more. The scrambled eggs are pretty good.

Hours
Monday-Friday: 6:30-9:30 a.m.
Saturday & Sunday: 7:00-10:00 a.m.

H Bar

During the evening hours, you can sit in the lobby and enjoy a drink and some bar food. It is a great place for a drink before you head to bed but there are better dining options nearby.

H Market

Next to the front desk is a small market. It offers mainly beverages to purchase and some snacks. Enough to get by for a night. Eligible elites can pick up their two free bottles of water from the refrigerator in the market.

Conclusion

The Hyatt House The Woodlands / Shenandoah is a fairly new hotel. It’s exceptionally clean and the staff is fantastic and extremely helpful.

The only issue is the WiFi, you usually must “log in” every 24 hours but sometimes it happens every hour and you lose connection and have to re-login to get connected again. This is super annoying.

Besides that, I had no issues during my stay. It’s a tranquil location and has lots of dining options close by. Some of them are even within walking distance.
