Geocaching Is Bringing GeoTours to Your Phone

If you follow my blog, you probably heard of GeoTours before. GeoTours are geocaches grouped into a small tour to show and guide you in a city, county, or even state. GeoTours are usually some small challenges. You have to collect stamps or passcodes in a so-called passport and then return the passport to the owner of the GeoTour to receive a prize.
The “prizes” can range from small to big. I usually got geocoins, patches or some other souvenir swag when I completed a GeoTour. I like this little competition and it gives me even more incentive to go outside.
With the latest app update of the Geocaching App, you have now all the official GeoTours from www.geocaching.com at your fingertips. This makes managing GeoTours a hell lot easier. To find out more about the new feature, read the Geocaching Blog.
I got into situations, where I was geocaching and found a geocache which belonged to a GeoTour. Once I find the first one, I want to continue with the rest of the tour.

However, the implementation of GeoTours in the app is as bad as it can get. First of all, you have to find it. Yeah, it was hidden at an unexpected spot for me. In the main screen of the app (the map with geocaches), you have to hit the search icon in the top toolbar. Now you get 4 options to choose from and one is “GeoTour”. The problem now is, you have to know the GeoTour code of the tour you want to look up. But how do I get this code in the wild if it’s not in the cache description? I have to open the browser on my mobile device and go to the geocaching website, log in and search for the tour I want. With all that hassle, I can directly look it up in the browser and won’t need the app for it. I hope Groundspeak is checking this blog every now and then and see my concerns with the new feature. Why not just give us a list, sorted by country, kinda as I do on my blog here.
Geocaching.com published a list with all the current GeoTour Codes.

I have the Geocaching App on my Android phone, but it’s not my favorite app for geocaching. The best app ever made for geocaching is c:geo and only available for Android.
Besides the official GeoTours, you will find on Geocaching.com, there are also countless other ones. These are not listed on the official GeoTour list from Geocaching.com.
That’s why I started my own list of GeoTours. The list will grow over time and I will add more GeoTours as soon as I find them. I also will start adding the official GeoTours. You can access my list via this link or click in the menu at the top on Geocaching and then GeoTours.
Have you done any GeoTours yet and if so tell me which one in the comments?
