Seattle just added a new international destination to its portfolio. Lufthansa will service Munich, the Bavarian capital, from Seattle. This is the third new international service from Seattle this year with more to follow later this year. Munich is Lufthansa’s second busiest hub after Frankfurt and home to big companies like BMW, Siemens and the world-renowned Oktoberfest.
Lufthansa announced the new route in late 2019 for a start in June of 2020. But we all know what happened in 2020. The coronavirus pandemic shuttered global travel. We are more or less back to the same level of travel as before the pandemic. Because of the pandemic, the new route was put on ice for the time being. Last year in September 2023, Lufthansa came forward and announced that they will start the new route in mid 2024. Originally, Lufthansa was planning to fly the route between Munich and Seattle daily during the summer schedule and three times a week during the winter season.
On Friday, May 31, 2024 Lufthansa Flight LH488 arrived in Seattle. LH488 left Munich a few minutes late but made up time in flight and arrived early in Seattle.
Route Details
The route between Munich and Seattle is served by an Airbus A350-900 one of the quietest and most fuel-efficient planes in Lufthansa’s fleet.
The plane will have three classes with a total of 293 seats.
- Business Class (48 seats)

The current flight schedule lets you fly three times a week non-stop to Munich. Flights are on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and the flight time is about 10 hours in either direction.
