TripIt announced recently the introduction of a new feature which will help you to stay safe on your trip, no matter nationally or internationally.

The new feature is called Risk Alerts and will do exactly what you think it might do. It will warn you about risks which could coincide with your itinerary. It helps you to make informed decision on or even before your trip and to take actions to mitigate these risks.

The Risk Alerts feature monitors incidents and events which might affect airports and airlines in your itinerary, which includes things like

  • Weather (e.g., snowstorms, hurricanes)
  • Labor action (e.g., strikes)
  • Political unrest (e.g., protests)
  • Communication and technology outages
  • Airport and airline incidents (e.g., runway closures)

The Risk Alerts feature will send you push notifications to your mobile device to get up to date information if something is happening or about to happen which would affect your plans. Risk Alert notifications can also be found in the TripIt app in the Alerts tab and are marked alongside the affected travel plan in your trip timeline and with your flight details.

Unfortunately, Risk Alerts is a TripIt Pro feature, meaning you need an active subscription to the app. TripIt costs only $49/year which is not a bad deal, especially if you travel a lot. It can already pay for itself during one trip with all the other features it offers. If you don’t use TripIt yes, it is time to check it out. There is a free version available as well which will give you an idea what the app is all about.
