Best Western Wants to Give You a Free Samsung Galaxy J3 Smartphone

I received an interesting email today from Best Western titled “Your new phone is calling!”. Of course, I was intrigued and read through the email. Best Western is giving away a free Samsung Galaxy J3 or equivalent (whatever that might be) if you sign up for their newest promotion.

Of course, there are some catches with this promotion and they are not just mailing you a free phone. First, these are the things you have to do:

  • Sign up for the promotion which runs from now until August 31, 2019
  • One Eligible stay between June 1, 2019, and August 31, 2019 (promotion period) at any Best Western in the USA or Canada
  • Offer only valid in the United States

This is was the easy part. Once you have completed your stay, you will receive an email approx 5 days after completing your stay to claim your free phone. To get your free phone you need a valid credit card and have to do the following things

  • pay for shipping and handling
  • pay for the first two months of service: $50/month (regulatory fees and applicable sales taxes are included in the $50.00 per month service fee.)
  • it will take up to one week to receive the phone after claiming it.

Wireless products and services are fulfilled by boom! MOBILE, Inc. You can choose to keep your current number or request a new phone number. This is no contract and you can cancel service after two months. If you do so, you can keep the phone. You can buy multiple phones, if you have multiple stays, according to the Terms and Conditions and as long as supplies last.

Conclusion

At first glance, it seems like a sweet deal but its not. Here is a small list

The Samsung Galaxy J3 is middle class to low-end class. If you already have a phone, it’s almost not worth it to use this offer. Only if you are in a real need of any phone to stay in touch with the world, then this might be an option. But to stay in a hotel, which most likely has a room rate higher than $100/night, just to get the phone is not a good idea. If they would offer a decent phone, like a lower high-end class it would be different. Like offering the Galaxy S9 or S8 instead of the J3. I bet most people don’t even know that there is a Samsung Galaxy J3 as Samsung mostly advertised their S-series and Galaxy Note’s in the U.S.

What is an eligible stay?
An “eligible stay” for the purpose of this Promotion is defined as one or more consecutive nights at the same Best Western branded hotel in the United States or Canada, at a rate eligible for earning points or airline/partner rewards, with the exception of a stay booked through an online travel agency, a stay booked through a tour operator, or a stay booked at a special discounted rate (see Best Western Rewards program rules for further information on eligibility criteria). Multiple check-in/check-out at the same property with less than 24 hours between check-out and check-in will count as one eligible stay. Eligible stays which occur during the Promotion Period, but which have a check-in date that overlaps the beginning of the Promotion Period, will be counted towards the Promotion. An eligible stay which takes place during the Promotion Period must be completed on or before August 31, 2019 to be counted towards the Promotion.

Is the Smartphone really “Free”?
The Smartphone is free, however, you are required to pre-pay for shipping plus two months of unlimited voice, text, and 5GB of data service at $50.00 per month upon claiming the Smartphone. No annual contracts or credit check required. Regulatory fees and applicable sales taxes are included in the $50.00 per month service fee.

What kind of Smartphone will I receive?
After registering and meeting promotion qualifications you will receive a new Samsung® Galaxy J3 (or equivalent) AndroidTMSmartphone while supplies last.

Can I keep my current cellphone number?
Yes, if you currently have a cellphone, you may keep that number or choose to be assigned a new number.

How many Smartphones can I earn during the promotion period?
You can receive as many Smartphones during the Promotion Period as you qualify for (while supplies last). Promotion is subject to cancellation or change without notice.

Do Best Western Rewards members need to be registered for this promotion to be eligible to receive the Smartphone?
Yes. Best Western Rewards members must be registered for the Promotion prior to their first eligible stay to qualify for the Smartphone. Best Western Rewards members can register for the promotion online by logging into their Best Western Rewards account profile and registering through their profile.

How long does it take to receive the Smartphone after I have completed my eligible stay?
Upon completing the Promotion requirements an email containing a link to claim your new phone will be sent to the email address in your account profile approximately five (5) business days after you have completed the qualified stay. You must have a valid email address on file. After claiming your phone, please allow approximately one (1) week for delivery.

It has been more than five business days, and I haven’t received the email so that I can claim my Smartphone, what steps should I take?
Sometimes an email can get caught in your spam filter. Please check and make sure you’ve added Best Western to your accepted emails. If you need us to re-send the email, please contact Best Western Rewards Customer Care at 1 (800) 237-8483.

It has been more than one week since claiming my Smartphone, and I haven’t received it yet, what steps should I take?
