Booking & Stay Details

For my weekend off work, I was looking for a getaway to the Oregon coast, as I was already in Eugene. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for the weekend was doom and gloom with rain and wind all weekend long. Overall it turned out to be a great weekend, as there were lots of breaks in the forecasted rain and the overcast sky, where the sun came through. I had set my mind on staying in Florence, OR. There are not many choices if it comes to chain hotels and the best choice for me was the Best Western Pier Point Inn for numerous reasons.

  • Great Location with awesome views of the city and the river
  • The Best Western Rewards Program is decent
  • There was a Best Western Promotion, where you earn a free night for staying 2 nights
  • I had a Chase offer for cashback when staying at a Best Western

I was hoping to find a King bed room with river view, but was only able to book a 2 Queen room with river view. It wasn’t a deal braker for me, as my main goal was to get a room with the river view. You pay a little bit over $10 bucks extra to get the river view room, compared to a regular room.

Location

The Best Western Pier Point Inn is located right of Highway 101 which runs along the Oregon Coast. The hotel is situated just outside of town before the Siuslaw River Bridge when heading north. It sits on the river front and rooms facing that way have a great view of the river, bridge and the waterfront of Florence.

Parking

Parking is complimentary and there is plenty of parking available around the building, There is also an overflow parking lot just one exit north on 101. This lot is perfect if you arrive with larger vehicles like an RV or towing a trailer.

Shuttle Service

No shuttle service available but it is only a short walk into town.

Check-In

It was just a little bit over a one hour drive from the Fairfield Inn in Eugene to the Best Western Pier Point Inn. Check-in was quick and easy as usual. The hotel still requires paperwork to be filled out, like initials for the room rate, vehicle information and a final signature. Got that done and had my keys in my hand right after.

Front Desk

Check-In: 4 p.m.
Check-Out: 11 a.m.

Non-Pet, 2 Queen Beds, River View w/Balcony (Room 456)

This room is located in the main building, just one level below the lobby. The stairs are across from the front desk. Be aware, this hotel has no elevators anywhere. There are a few rooms which are on ground level which are easier to access but most rooms require you to walk a set of stairs.

The room is very spacious and had a laminate flooring throughout the room and no carpets. The two Queen beds took up most of one side of the room. A nightstand was placed in the middle of both beds and it had a light on top of it with power outlets. Another power outlet was on the wall between one bed and the dresser which sits in the corner next to the bathroom.

Centered and opposite the bed was another dresser which held a medium-sized refrigerator, microwave and extra drawers for storing. On top of it was a TV. On either side of the dresser was a suitcase stand and in the corner next to the balcony door was a little work desk with office chair.

The desk came with the usual in-room phone as well as light. Power outlets were in the wall next to the desk.

The room also had its own balcony which was very spacious. On the balcony were two chairs and a small cocktail table. The sliding door came with a fly net, so you could leave the door open if you wanted to cool the room down as there are no AC units, just heaters. The room also has a ceiling fan, which can be controlled with a panel on the bathroom wall.

The bathroom itself had a little vestibule which held a small closet and a vanity with a single sink. Inside the closet is a small safe. The main bathroom is rather small. You have to close the door to get into the shower/bathtub combo. The shower comes with a shower wand. Inside the bathroom is another vanity with a single sink, but this one is a little bit wider.

Public Areas & Amenities

Lobby

The lobby doesn’t offer much in regards for “activities”. It mainly holds the front desk, business center and the dining area for breakfast. It also connects you to a small ballroom next to the dining area. To get into the lobby, you have to walk up a small set of stairs or you can use the ramp to the left of the main entrance. The front desk is to your right as you walk in from the main entrance. Next to the business center is a book shelf which also holds a few games you can borrow.

Business Center

The business center is located along the hallway which used to lead to an on-site restaurant, which is now closed. It consists of two computers and a printer. The business center is available 24/7.

Fitness Center

The fitness center is located on the same level as my room, just one set of stairs down from the lobby in the main building. It is a rather small fitness center but has a decent selection of workout equipment but no windows to the outside.

Pool

The pool is on the lowest level in the main building. One level below my room. You need your room key to gain access to the pool area. The pool is indoor and is heated. There are also two hot tubs, restroom, shower and a dry sauna. All of that is complimentary for hotel guests. The pool area has large floor to ceiling windows which overlook the river.

Guest Laundry

Unfortunately, there is no on-site laundry facility for guests to use. But there are a few laundromats in town, which are close by in case you need to do laundry.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping was provided daily if you requested it, but I declined it all together for my three-night stay.

Dining

Breakfast

The breakfast room is near the front desk and offers a great view of the river and town. Try to get there early to snag a table at the windows.

Breakfast service is actually pretty good. You have a wide selection of items on the buffet side. There is also an omelette station every day of the week, where you can have your omelete prepared to your liking. Throughout the week the hotel offers different specials for breakfast.

Other Dining Options

There used to be a good restaurant on site called “The Bay View”. However this one doesn’t exist anymore. But don’t worry, there are a ton of good restaurants in town for every taste. It is not even that long of a walk if you decide to have a few drinks. That way you don’t have to worry about driving.

You can buy a few small snacks, water and soda at the small market next to the front desk.

Conclusion

The stay at the Best Western Pier Point Inn was great during my weekend here. The weather not so much, but hey, that’s not the hotel’s fault. Otherwise it was a great stay. Internet is a little bit on the slow side, but you don’t come here for high speed internet, you should come here to reconnect with nature and explore the amazing Oregon coast.
