Reading Time: 12 minutes
The 4th of July weekend was coming up and I didn’t want to stay out in Rancho Cordova. Therefore, I did some searching and found the Hyatt Regency Sacramento. It’s not as conveniently located near Old Town Sacramento as The Exchange, but still, a wonderful place to explore the city from a different angle and close to the Capitol. Walking to the Old Town also isn’t that far from the Hyatt Regency.
Location
The Hyatt Regency Sacramento is located in the heart of the town. Right next to many important attractions and venues like the California State Capitol Park and State Capitol, and SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. It is also very close to many of the government buildings in Sacramento. Behind the hotel is an alleyway that houses a bunch of restaurants as well as an IMAX theatre. Everything within just a very short walk.

If you are trying to visit Old Sacramento, it is about a 20-minute walk from the Hyatt Regency Sacramento.
Parking
The Hyatt Regency Sacramento offers both valet and self-parking. Valet parking is $35/night for hotel guests while self-parking is only $25/night. There is an adjoining parking garage right next to the hotel building. Self-parking is available on Levels 4 & 5. Check-in first and tell them you will be self-parking. Your room key will get you in and out of the parking garage. The hotel entrance is located on the second floor of the parking garage. You can take the stairs down to the lobby level or the nearby elevator to the lobby or your room.

There are a lot of EV chargers available on the top floor of the garage on the fifth floor. Some people just park there because they are close to the elevator and not even having an EV.
Check-In
I pulled out to the main entrance of the hotel. A valet greeted me, and I told him that I will be self-parking but here to check-in. He just wanted to hold on to the keys while I headed inside to check-in.

The front desk is to the right of the main entrance. There were a few people already waiting in line but the line for World of Hyatt members with status was empty. I was immediately able to start my check-in process. After verifying my ID and credit card the agent told me that she can’t upgrade me to a suite as they are sold out for the weekend. However, she noted that I am here for five nights and that I could double-check on Sunday if they have availability to upgrade me to a suite. She also gave me a quick rundown of all the amenities the hotel has to offer and handed me my room keys.
1 King Bed Executive Corner (Room 765)
This room is located at the very end of the hallway. When you enter the room, the entryway will lead to your right instead of straight into the room. Behind the room door is a closet with sliding doors. It also houses a safe and offers storage space for your belongings.

Right next to it is the bathroom. Inside is a small vanity with a single sink. Above the vanity is a large wall-mounted mirror. Next to the vanity is the toilet followed by the shower at the end of the bathroom. The bathroom has wall-mounted shampoo dispensers. Outside the bathroom, on the opposing wall, is a wall-mounted dressing mirror.
From there, the entryway opens into the main room. Straight ahead is a small work desk with a chair. A lamp sits on top of the desk and power outlets are on the left side of the desk. There is a small icon marker on top of the desk which indicates the location of the power outlets. The desk has a glass top, which will require you to use a mouse pad if you are using a computer mouse.
Right where the entryway opens up to the room, you have the king-sized bed on your left. It has a tall headboard and a nightstand on either side of the bed. On top of each of the nightstands is a lamp which also has additional power outlets. Only one of the nightstands had built-in power outlets as well.
The rest of the open space of the room is taken up by a chaise lounger as well as a small, round table with a single chair. The table, chair, and lounger all share one light stand in the middle of them. This is also the corner where you find the A/C controls for the room.

At the center of the outside wall is a wall-mounted 65″ TV. Unfortunately, this hotel has no Chromecast integration, which I love so much about Hyatt. Below the TV is a medium-sized closet. It comes with three drawers to stow your belongings and holds the coffee maker as well as a small refrigerator with a glass door. Inside are two water bottles that are complimentary for World of Hyatt members.
The room has two windows. One next to the work desk and one at the far end of the room. While the one at the far end is a corner window and looks like it gives you a mini balcony, you will be disappointed to know that you can just crack open the door a tiny little bit. The views are not spectacular. You will see the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center and the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center. Not really a lot to see. Rooms with an even number on that hallway would see the California State Capitol Park, which might be a better view than the one I had.

Park Capitol Suite (Room 902)
I checked back with the front desk, and they talked to their manager but unfortunately couldn’t upgrade me on Sunday. I had to wait to swap rooms until Monday, but I got an awesome suite for my last 2 nights. They sent the new room keys to my room and even asked if I needed a bellman to help with my luggage. I moved all my stuff by myself, as I didn’t have much with me.
This is an 875 sq ft studio style suite and it is a standard suite in the World of Hyatt program. There are only two of these suites on every floor. The Park Capitol Suites are the biggest suites at this hotel besides the single Presidential Suite. They are located close to the elevators on each floor.
As you walk in, you enter the dining area of the suite. This area has a tiled floor and comes with a large table with six highchairs to enjoy room service. Besides a small refrigerator, the same size as in the regular rooms, and a coffee maker there is nothing in the room to prepare a meal yourself. The refrigerator is in a closet hidden behind a door and the coffee maker sits on top of the closet which has a countertop. Perfekt to set up your food if you have a bigger meal and your party can share.
Past the dining area is the living room area. From here on the rest of the suite has a carpeted floor. The living room area comes with a wall-mounted 65″ flatscreen TV. Underneath the TV is another closet for extra storage. In front of the TV is an L-shaped sofa. It cannot be transformed into a bed but it’s big enough to sleep another person. In front of the sofa is a small cocktail table and to the side of it is a laptop stand if you want to work from the sofa.

Right behind the sofa is a work desk with a chair. The desk has power outlets on its left side but no USB ports. On top of it is a wireless in-room phone. Next to it you will find a tall lamp.
The bedroom is separated from the rest of the suite with two doorways, one on each side of the room. The wall facing the living room area holds a large mirror.
The other side of the wall holds a wall-mounted 60″ flatscreen TV. By the way, if you want a cozy “fireplace” on your TV switch it on and tune it to channel 4.
Underneath the TV is another small closet. The king-sized bed is located opposite the wall and centers in the room. On either side is a nightstand with a lamp on either side as well as another in-room telephone and an alarm clock. Next to the bed, in the inside corner of the room is a large comfortable chair with a small table next to it as well as another lamp. Next to the bed, towards the outside wall is the control for the room’s A/C unit. There is only one control for the whole suite. This control is located next to the windows of the suite.
The window faces the California State Capitol Park, and you get to see part of the Capitol building but have an unobstructed view of the hotel’s driveway. There is a small balcony out front, which you can’t access by the sliding door as you can only open it a few inches before it hits an installed stop. Because there are no windows in the living room/dining area, it is pretty dark. Even the lights in the room can’t light it up as much as natural light would do. It was perfect for me as it became my literally speaking darkroom to edit my photos of the 4th of July fireworks in Sacramento.

One of the amazing features of this suite is the bathroom. You can access it through a door from the bedroom. The bathroom is huge. As you walk in you have a make-up desk which also comes with a chair. To the right of the entrance is a large wall-closet with lots of storage. It’s so large, you can even set up your suitcase in there. It also holds an iron and ironing board besides an extra blanket and pillow.
To the left is a large vanity with a single sink and a large wall-mounted mirror. Behind the vanity is a large shower with a glass door. Inside the shower are wall-mounted shampoo dispensers. This is a very spacious bathroom and fits perfectly together with the rest of the suite.
Public Areas & Amenities
Lobby
The lobby of the Hyatt Regency Sacramento is really beautiful. It is basically a very long and wide hallway that offers seating possibilities throughout the entire length. From that hallway, you can also access the gift shop, lobby bar, and business center. The lobby invites you to hang out and relax.

Business Center
The business center is a little bit hidden. It is located at the far end of the main lobby hallway. When you enter the hotel through the main entrance, walk down the hallway to the right all the way to the end. You will pass the front desk, gift shop, and lobby bar on your way to it. Once you get close, you can’t miss it. It’s close to the doors leading out to the patio and pool area. The business center consists of two workstations and one printer.

Outdoor Patio and Pool
Next to the lobby bar is a door leading outside to the patio area as well as to the pool. Hang out and enjoy a beautiful day in Sacramento out on the patio. For the evening hours, there is also a fireplace to stay warm and cozy. A few steps down from the patio is the pool area. It is a resort-style heated outdoor pool, filled with salt water. Around the pool area are multiple loungers to hang out and soak up some sun. There is also some shade available thanks to the tall trees. There is one cabana available at the pool and it’s available on a first come first serve basis. If you are looking for more discrete access to the pool area, you can get off the elevator on the second floor and walk to your left and take the stairs down to the first level which will take you right to the doors to get to the pool area. Only if there is no event going on in one of the meeting rooms on the second floor.
Stay Fit – Fitness Center
The fitness center here at this hotel is amazing. It is large and has an excellent selection of workout equipment, including a Peloton corner, which comes with three peloton bikes. Furthermore, there are massage rooms available, and the restroom is more than just a restroom. It also has a shower and a handful of lockers to store your belongings.
There is only one tricky thing about the fitness center. You need to find it. You can’t access the fitness center through the lobby or even the hotel itself. The easiest way is getting off the elevator on the second floor and heading out to the parking garage. Take the elevator in the parking garage down to the ground level and get on the sidewalk. The fitness center is located almost at the end of the block on 12th Street. Keep your eyes open for the “Stay Fit” sign for the fitness center. You need your room key to access the fitness center. The fitness center is shared between the Hyatt Regency and Emperia Spa. It is a bit strange that you access the fitness center from the sidewalk rather than from the hotel property.
Meeting Spaces
The Hyatt Regency Sacramento has a lot of meeting spaces and ballrooms. They are located on the ground floor as well as on the second level of the hotel. Some of their best meeting rooms are on the 15th floor.

Dining
Regency Club
The Hyatt Regency Sacramento used to have a Regency Club which shut down at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and hasn’t reopened ever since. This is one of the biggest issues of Hyatt hotels currently. Almost all club lounges are closed. I experienced this in almost every hotel I went to since the beginning of the pandemic. Even though everything else is wide open again, lounges are still shut.
Vine’s Cafe (Breakfast and Lunch)
As the Regency Club is closed, World of Hyatt Globalists will get their free breakfast at Vine’s Cafe. The hotel offers a $25 credit for breakfast. Up to four people can receive this credit per reservation.
Only an a la carte menu is served even while having the amenities for a buffet in the cafe. I tried a few of their breakfast choices and they are all delicious. Service is great and the staff tries to do their best to give you an amazing dining experience.
Hours:
7:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. | Breakfast
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Brunch (Sat & Sunday)
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | Lunch (Monday – Friday)
If you want, you can also sit outside and enjoy the California sun during your breakfast.
Starbucks
There is an onsite Starbucks. The coffee shop is in a separate building on the hotel grounds. The entrance is located next to the parking garage and delivery entrance. There is a nice garden area with tables and benches right in front of the hotel. Perfect to enjoy a cup of coffee.
Hours:
daily from 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Amourath Lobby Bar
The lobby bar is located close to the front desk on the opposite side of the hallway. This bar also had a patio area outside and serves the pool area as well with drinks. The bar is the last place that shuts down the kitchen to order food. All the other on-site restaurants and dining establishments will be closed even before the lobby bar closes.
Hours:
Sunday – Wednesday: 2p.m. – 9 p.m.
Thursday – Saturday: 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Dawsons Steakhouse
The steakhouse is located on the ground floor, near the main entrance and next to Vine’s Cafe. It’s the perfect place for an awesome dinner. The food is a bit on the pricy side, but you get what you pay for. The service was amazing, the food was delicious, and my steak was cooked as ordered. An interesting touch at the restaurant is the tablet you get to make your beer selection, while the food selection is old school from a laminated paper manual.
Hours:
Tuesday – Saturday: 5:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Conclusion
This was truly an awesome stay. I got to relax and recharge. i had such a fun time here at the hotel. Everyone was so nice, and they really cared about their guests. There was a small hiccup with the bill. Before I checkout, I always check the hotel bill in the app, and I noticed I got charged for premium Wi-Fi which is complimentary as Globalist. I mentioned that during checkout, and they took it off right away. No questions asked. That’s just another reason I love Hyatt. Mistakes happen, systems have glitches but if you are aware, you can fix it. I am looking forward to another stay here at this location.
