Royal Air Maroc and American Airlines Launch Codeshare Agreement Tomorrow

About a year ago we learned about the news that Royal Air Maroc will join the Oneworld alliance in mid-2020. American Airlines, which is a founding member of the Oneworld alliance is now launching a codeshare agreement with Royal Air Maroc tomorrow, December 26, 2019.

American Airlines customers can now buy tickets on Royal Air Maroc flights to Casablanca, Morocco (CMN), which will provide seamless connecting service to Marrakech, Morocco (RAK). These flights are available for purchase now with a travel date starting December 26, 2019.

On June 4, 2020, American Airlines will begin seasonal service to Casablanca (CMN). AA will be the only U.S. carrier with non-stop service to Casablanca (CMN).

In early 2020 the codeshare will be expanded to additional cities across the African continent.

  • Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (ABJ)
  • Accra, Ghana (ACC)
  • Lagos, Nigeria (LOS)
  • Luanda, Angola (LAD)
  • Monrovia, Liberia (ROB)

With this codeshare agreement, Royal Air Maroc customers will be able to connect on American’s domestic network.

Cities with direct flights to Casablanca are…

  • Boston (BOS)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • New York (JFK)
  • Philadelphia (PHL) – Operated by American Airlines starting June 4, 2020
  • Washington (IAD)

All flights, except the one from Philadelphia, will be operated by Royal Air Maroc. American Airlines will fly a Boeing 757-200 on the route between Philadelphia and Casablanca. American Airlines will be replacing its Boeing 757 fleet with the new Airbus A321XLR. While Royal Air Maroc will fly its Boeing 767-300ER, Boeing 787-8 (Dreamliner) and Boeing 787-9 (Dreamliner) aircraft on the routes to the U.S. The airline is the largest airline in the country and is owned by the government of Morocco.

Flights to and from Casablanca (CMN)

I am really looking forward to this, as I am planning on going to Morocco anyway. This makes it even easier for me as an American Airlines customer to reach my destinations and I can stay with my airline alliance as well as Airline. Unfortunately, American Airlines and Oneworld lost their partner LATAM in South America. If you are heading that direction you might want to look at Delta Airlines and Skyteam.

Earning and redeeming miles will start once the airline becomes a member airline of the Oneworld alliance.
