Silvercar just announced another new location. Well, technically its the second location in the same region. Silvercar’s 25th location will be in Downtown San Francisco near Union Square. Just a block east of one of my favorite Downtown hotels, the Grand Hyatt San Francisco.

Reservations are already for rentals starting September 24, 2018. You are able to rent an Audi A4, A5 Cabriolet or Q5. Audi itself bought Silvercar about 1.5 years ago. Recently they changed their name from “Silvercar” to “Silvercar by Audi”. For people who never heard about Silvercar before, that sounds like that Audi actually “invented” Silvercar, but they did not. It would be ok if they would only change the name, but they also changed their handle for twitter and co to @silvercarbyaudi. What is so bad about Silvercar. If it is a good product, you don’t have to put the “by Audi” in there. If not, people will know as well and then you really shouldn’t associate your brand with it. So for me, changing the name and handle was not very smart and makes me rather not to rent anymore with a company showing such weird behavior. So far you left the Silvercar brand alone and I hope you will continue to do so. Of course, I am happy if you supply better-equipped cars to them, but so far they did pretty well on their own and their rental service was affordable compared to Audi on demand.

Even weirder is that Audi has it’s own car rental program in San Francisco – Audi on demand. San Francisco is the only location in the U.S. where you can use the Audi on demand service. They have locations in other cities around the world like Beijing, Munich, Hong Kong, Singapore. I never rented with Audi on demand because they are expensive as hell, even the same cars you can rent with Silvercar, like an Audi A4, is way more expensive with Audi on demand as with Silvercar. The only advantage of Audi on demand is, that your car will be delivered to you and you basically can rent all the cars Audi has available, while Silvercar only offers 3 models.

I especially love Silvercar’s quick, easy and painless rental process. Everything is digital and the staff members are super friendly and nice.

Silvercar already has a location at the San Francisco International Airport. Maybe you can pick up your car at the airport and then drop it off downtown and vice versa. So you can get to and from the airport in style.
