This year’s Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day is approaching fast. After the Museum’s Day got canceled last year because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, it is back on track for 2021. If you haven’t done so, get your tickets soon as they might get booked up for certain locations. For example the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum has no more available tickets. It’s very unlikely that any more tickets will open up, as you can’t “return” or “exchange” your ticket. Even if you don’t go, the ticket will expire and a slot will go unused. This is especially sad this year as many museums have entry restrictions and capacity limits. For example, some museums will require proof of vaccination and masks to visit. The Flight Path Learning Center at LAX is one of them. Even tho, not all other museums in Los Angeles County require proof of vaccination. This could however change quickly as the whole situation with the pandemic is still fluent.
Wehn Is Museum Day 2021
This year’s Museum Day will be on Saturday, September 18th, 2021.
Never heard of Museum Day before?
Museum Day is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian Magazine. In the spirit of the Smithsonian Museums, which offer free admission every day, participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a free Museum Day ticket.
Not every museum or institution is participating. Find if your favorite museum you always wanted to visit is participating on the official website of the Museum Day.
There you can filter by ZIP code, state, or the type of museum you want to visit. Every state has at least 2 museums participating in this year’s Museum Day.
Choose wisely as you have only one selection every year. Once you made your selection and got your ticket, you can’t change it anymore or take it back to select another museum. However, nothing will happen if you choose a museum and then don’t go.
Every ticket is good for two standard admissions at participating museums. It’s not valid for special exhibits, parking, IMAX film screening or any other offer. Some of the museums require printed tickets. If so, there will be a mark on your ticket that you have to print it. Otherwise, you can just show it on your smartphone.
Check the FAQ section to get the most important questions you might have answered. Otherwise, reach out by using the provided contact form at the end of the FAQ section or via social media.
If you want to bring more than just one guest, you have to pay for your other guests, except…
For example, as a family of four, each parent could get a ticket and therefore bring one of their children with them. Please don’t abuse this way of getting tickets. We all want the Museum Day to last for many more years to come.
Have fun and be safe during this year’s museum day.
