Imagine you are sitting in the airport and try to use your laptop or mobile device to kill the time before boarding. Unfortunately, you are in an airport which has no free Wi-Fi.
Lucky there is now a new tool out there for you, a map with Wi-Fi passwords for airports and lounges. The map even tells you where to sit to get the best reception. The map is updated regularly and you can help updating it.
Besides the map, there are also apps available for Android, Amazon, and iOS for offline use.
Since the map is created with Google MyMaps you can also show the data in your Google Maps app.
Just click the “Star” in the map above and it will be added to your MyMaps (when you are logged in with your Google Account). On the Google Maps app open the menu and go to Your Places and select Maps. Now the map from above should show up in the list and you only need to select it. The same is true for the Desktop-Version of Google Maps.
I don’t know how happy provider of this Wi-Fi networks will be. Especially Airport Lounges reserve their Wi-Fi for the lounge guests only. On one side this map is really helpful but could also lead to issues in the future. I guess we have to wait and see what happens.
Most airports in the U.S. have now free Wi-Fi but this is definitely helpful if you travel abroad.
