Booking & Stay Details
I was looking for a hotel in the Bay Area for the weekend. Since Hyatt has a promotion going on where you get 3000 points for every two nights you stay, I was looking for a Hyatt property. While browsing the results I saw the Wild Palms – JDV by Hyatt. They had an unbelievable room rate of $91/night. I haven’t seen rates like this in Silicon Valley in years for a decent hotel. I also never stayed at a JDV property, so this is a plus too as it will bring me closer to another brand explorer free night.
Location
The Wild Palms Hotel – JDV by Hyatt is located in the heart of Silicon Valley – Sunnyvale. It is close to Apple Park and its visitor center. The hotel is located close to CA-82, the spinal arterial road of the peninsula. The Wild Palms Hotel is a great choice if you need a place anywhere in the Southbay, around San Jose.
Parking
Parking is complimentary and there are plenty of parking spots around the perimeter of the hotel building.
Shuttle Service
No shuttle service is offered.
Check-In
I pulled up in the driveway in front of the main building and walked inside to check in. The front desk is easy to find when you park in the main driveway. I showed my ID and credit card and received my room keys. I was also upgraded to 1 King Bed with Resort View rather than the outside-facing room I booked. The agent asked me if I wanted a room on the first or second floor. Unfortunately, the whole hotel has no elevators. If you stay upstairs, you will have to drag your bags up one of the many stairs located throughout the property. I still opted for upstairs and received a small map of the property.

The open corridors facing the courtyard give you the feeling of being on a tropical island. The complex has multiple entrances from the parking lot, but you will need your room key to get in. Otherwise, you must use the main entrance up front.

1 King Bed with Resort View (Room 1294)
This room is located in the main building on the second floor. The entryway has a wall closet on the right side. It has plenty of space and it also holds the in-room safe and a few shelves.
On the other side of the entryway is the entrance to the bathroom. It’s a small bathroom and the vanity comes with a single sink and wall-mounted mirror. The shower tub is opposite the vanity.
The entryway leads right into the main part of the room. It comes with a King-sized bed. On either side of the bed is a nightstand and lights are mounted to the wall. The bases of the lights offer power outlets for your devices. I like the decorative net above the bed. It has no actual benefits besides being a nice decorative item. Gives you a bit of a tropical feeling.
Opposite the bed is a large wall-mounted TV. Below is a dresser for additional storage and it also holds the coffee maker and ice bucket. Next to the dresser is a mid-size refrigerator. It just sits there and looks a bit out of place as it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the items in this room. But at least you have a refrigerator.
To the left is a work desk with an office chair. A microwave is placed on top of the desk. It’s an odd spot for a microwave, but hey you have a microwave in the room.
The room faces the courtyard and overlooks the pool area. There is one window in the room, it also reminds me about hotel stays in tropical regions. Below the window is the AC unit, which is controlled from a remote at the end of the entryway.
Overall, it is a very cozy room and very quiet as well. I did not have any noise issues even though fire trucks and ambulances were rushing up and down the roads a lot.
Public Areas & Amenities
Lobby
The lobby mainly holds the front desk and a small market. There is also a water dispenser and coffee offered throughout the day. Inside the lobby are a few seating spots. More can be found outside of the lobby.

Courtyard
The hotel itself offers a nice courtyard with lots of green spaces to hang out. The pool is one of the main parts of the courtyard, but just take a stroll around and see what’s there. It is very tranquil.

Fitness Center
The fitness center is located on the ground floor of the main building. You need your room key to enter the fitness center. It has a decent amount of workout equipment.
Pool
The pool is in the courtyard of the hotel. It also comes with a whirlpool besides a lot of pool chaise loungers. The perfect place to hang out and relax after a long or exhausting day. Next to the whirlpool is a small waterfall feature as decoration, which is pretty nice as well.
Guest Laundry
The hotel offers dry-cleaning service. You will find the bag and paper hanging in the closet in your room.
Dining
Breakfast
Breakfast is complimentary for all guests and is served in the breakfast room behind the lobby/front desk. They have a pretty good selection of items and I actually like their scrambled eggs, as they are not all dried out as in some other places.
Market
A small market is located in the lobby. Just ask one of the front desk agents to get the items you want.
Conclusion
The hotel is definitely an old building but the upkeep over the years was well done. It is in a decent shape, and it also gives you a bit of a nostalgic feel while staying here. It is definitely not a high-end luxury property, but it keeps what it promises, a relaxing getaway from the bustling Silicon Valley.
