I brought up Wyndham Rewards a few times here in the blog. Personally, I don’t use them as much anymore. Most of the times their hotels are on the lower end. However, they also have some awesome properties, for example in Las Vegas. Wyndham also acquired La Quinta which gives them another brand in their portfolio. I really like the new La Quinta hotels.
The Wyndham Rewards program has one gigantic failure, which probably makes it for most people hard to earn a bunch of miles. Points expire and the expire no matter if there is any activity. Every point you earn will expire 48 months after you earned it. No matter how much activity you have on your account or how much more points you earned in the meantime.
But what to do with expiring points? I have a ton of points expiring of the next few months and I only used one free night award in the last few years. So I was looking for other redemption options.
Wyndham offers you a few options besides stays with their hotels. See screenshot below or click here.
I decided to go with transferring points to airline partners to top of my milage accounts. The transfer rate is really bad. But I rather have a bad transfer rate than my points expiring into thin air and don’t get anything out of them at all.
No matter to which airline or bonus program you transfer your Wyndham Rewards points the rate is 6,000 Wyndham Rewards points for 1,200 partner points or miles. You can only transfer 6,000 points increments ( 6,000 points, 12,000 points, and so on…)
Wyndham Rewards – United MileagePlus Promotion
Wyndham has currently a promotion running where you get double the points if you transfer to United MileagePlus. This means you spend 6,000 Wyndham Rewards points to get 2,400 United MileagePlus miles. The promotion runs until August 15, 2019, and can be canceled without further notice according to their T&C.
But there is a catch! You can only transfer 6,000 points, 16,000 points or 30,000 points.
6,000 WR Points = 2,400 United MileagePlus Miles
16,000 WR Points = 6,400 United MileagePlus Miles
30,000 WR Points = 12,000 United MileagePlus Miles

Transferring Wyndham Rewards points to United is still not a perfect redemption but double the miles makes it a little less painful to use your points this way. How do you use your Wyndham Rewards points?
