I guess most of us love to enjoy a good burger every now and then, at least I do. It might not be the healthiest food on earth, but if you find a good place, the food is delicious. Isn’t that the general rule itself: If it tastes good, it’s bad for you and vice versa.

Well anyway here are some of the best burger joints I discovered so far. I will update the list and add new once, when I discover more great locations

The Oinkster

The Oinkster Eagle Rock

There are two locations of this burger joint and I have only been to the one in Eagle Rock so far. The second location is in Hollywood. My recommendation here is “The Royale” with angus beef, chilli and pastrami as the main ingredients. definitely worth a visit. Maybe interesting for some – They sell beer and wine. For the menu check out their website.

Tops Burgers

Another great burger place located just outside of Old Pasadena on Walnut and Allen Street.

Try the 1/2 lb cheeseburger, it’s delicious. They kept there recipes as close to the original back in 1952, when they opened this burger joint. But they updated their menu accordingly to the new generation of customers and food trends like the Veggie Burger. There is also a Mexican Menu, for the once who are interested in that. They only have one location so far and don’t mix it up with “The Original Tops”.

The Original Tops is located at the east end of Pasadena on Colorado Blvd. They also have only one location. I like the Pastrami Sandwich and small Chilli Cheese Fries. Be aware, if you are just by yourself, don’t order large fries or chilli cheese fries. Check out my picture, that was a “small” portion, which is enough for two people. There is also a “south of the border” menu.

In-N-Out Burger

IN-N-OUT Burger at LAX

I love In-N-Out. They are a family operated burger chain, with a lot of stores. Originally based in southern California, they are now expanding to other states and serving 5 states in total right now – California, Nevada, Utah, Texas and Arizona. This year (2015) they opened the 300th In-N-Out, which is located in Anaheim, CA. To find a location, visit their website or search for it on your favorite map app.

The stores are always packed and there is a reason for that. The burgers are just fantastic and really tasty. They are fresh made and no frozen products, that’s what you will taste. The menu looks really small, but they do custom burgers. For example the “Double Double” has two layers of beef and cheese, but you can build your own, for example a four by four. You will get 4 layers of beef and also four layers of cheese. They also have a secret menu, but pretty much everyone knows it – I guess. Order the burger as well as the fries “animal style”. The fries will then have cheese, onions and a nice dressing on top of it. The dressing looks like Thousand Island dressing. I love it animal style, it’s just delicious. The first store opened back in 1948 in Baldwin Park near Los Angeles.

Patrick’s Roadhouse

Patricks Roadhouse
Patricks Roadhouse

I discovered this place by accident, when I was working near the Santa Monica Beach on a small project site and this one was almost right across of my work location. They do have really good food and of course great burgers. I tried a lot of different once and they all tasted good. I can’t even decide which one is my favorite, because they are all good. For the folks who arrive by car, there is only a small parking area up front, but more parking in the rear of the restaurant. A big bonus of this place is the location. It’s almost at the beach, only the busy Pacific Coast Highway (Hwy 1) separates you from the beach. But there is an underpass right next to the restaurant to get easily back and forth between the beach and Patrick’s Roadhouse. The interior and exterior design is amazing, a lot of small and big details – check it out.

About Rounds Premium Burgers I love the ease to build your own burger. They have forms and pencils laying arround. You grab a form and check at the different steps your choices and there you go. Done. It was super quick when I did it the first time. Didn’t had to ask questions or anything, it’s all well explained. The burger was delicious – it had to be, I “designed” it ;-). They have a nice patio out in the back, which is pretty cozy. But the inside is nice as well and I love their social media screen, where they display all the posts from guests which are tagged. Parking is also available for free in the back. It is kinda tricky to find, you have to drive into a narrow little alley to get to the backside, but plenty of spots available. They have three locations throughout Los Angeles and two of them also serve beer and wine. I visited the Pasadena store. Besides the three locations, there is also a Rounds Burgers foot truck and the schedule can be found here.
