What a beautiful sunset along the Pacific Coast Highway, just south of San Francisco. I took this photo last fall on a small trip along the coast. This location is just south of the Devil’s Slide Trail. The Devil’s Slide Trail is another great spot to watch the sunset or just go for a hike.
I set up my camera near the edge of the cliff to get a good view of the beach and the ocean. A parking lot is right across the busy Highway 1. Be very careful when crossing here, as some cars shoot around the curve and there is not a lot of reaction time for neither of you. So keep your eyes open, watch the traffic for a few seconds in both direction and then cross. Driving along Highway one is one of the best road trips you can take. It takes you basically all the way from south of Los Angeles to almost up to Seattle.
I took multiple long exposure photos and combined them later on to an HDR image. After I was happy with my HDR result I did some post-processing to give the photo the final touches.
You can’t actually see the sun, but when you look at the picture it’s obvious its sunset because you are on the west coast. You can confuse it with the sunrise as well if you are not familiar where the place actually is.
Unfortunately I never actually made it down to the beach. This will be on my list for the next time I am in the area.
