I had a two-hour layover in DFW and originally planned to visit the Centurion Lounge in Terminal D. Luckily my flight was also arriving in Terminal D though it was just a very short walk to the lounge. Unfortunately, my luck ended right here. They just started a waitlist to enter the Centurion Lounge downstairs before you take the elevator up to the actual check-in counter. To get on the waitlist you must show your Amex Card and Boarding Pass and give them your phone number. When it’s your turn, you will receive a text to get to the lounge and can go upstairs to actually check in. The agent checking me in couldn’t tell me what the wait time would be, and I looked for alternative options in the meantime. The Priority Pass app showed me that there is a The Club Lounge in Terminal D and I decided to walk there and check it out.

Location

The Club at DFW is located on the mezzanine level on top of a wine bar and deli shop. You can take the stairs across from gate D25 or walk around to the other side where you have the option between an escalator and elevator. With my carry-on suitcase in tow, I opted for the escalator and went upstairs. You can already see The Club logo on the room ahead of you and a few comfortable chairs, which look like they are part of the lounge. I walked into the first room on the left, but there was no check-in counter. Only a tiny sign showed to check in with the attendant first before settling down. The actual counter is down the hallway inside the room on your right, passed the “business center” on the balcony.

Access

You have the following options to enter the Lounge. All based on availability and how crowded the lounge is.

Lounge access is only possible up to three hours prior to scheduled departing time.

You can use the lounge as a departing or arriving passenger. However, arriving passengers at The Club CHS and Club Aspire Heathrow Terminal 3 & 5 are excluded.

The Club at DFW Terminal D

The Club at DFW has an open floor plan and consists of multiple rooms and a balcony area which are part of the lounge. Theoretically, you can walk into any of these areas without checking in. However, the buffet and bar are located in the room with the check-in counter and the agent has a good eye on who’s coming in and out. After first walking into the quiet room by accident, I found the room where I must check in to get my complimentary access to the lounge thanks to Priority Pass. I showed the agent the barcode of my Priority Pass app, as well as my boarding pass. She gave me a quick overview of the lounge and its amenities, and I tried to find a seat in the same room as this one has the bar and buffet. Unfortunately, all seats were taken. It was a busy day traveling here at the airport.

I was able to snag an open seat on the balcony which I dub the business center. Why? It has a long counter along the whole balcony area, there is one workstation and there are multiple office chairs. It is the perfect spot to set up your laptop. Each spot comes with its own power outlet. There was a heat wave going through the area at you could also feel it on the balcony, which is still inside the terminal building. The quiet room was a lot cooler than all the other areas of the lounge as it is more an enclosed room and only has one door.

Inside the quiet room was a unisex restroom which is also a shower suite. I tried multiple times to get in it, but it was always occupied by someone. If you just need a restroom, there are additional restrooms just outside the lounge area, next to the escalator. There is a male and female restroom and either one of them is for a single person only.

Food

Food and beverages are complimentary at The Club at DFW. The bar is located behind the check-in counter and has a broad selection of beers and spirits.

Bar

If you are looking for soft drinks, coffee, water, and juices, you can find them at the buffet. The buffet area is close to the bar in the dining area behind the check-in counter. The food is decent. The food comes in small portions you can take to your table and besides the soup, there are no shared choices. To my surprise, the coffee machine here was actually working and you could make your own coffee, latte, cappuccino, or whatever else you prefer.

Conclusion

The lounge was crowded and sometimes there was a line forming at the check-in counter. However, I had no issues getting in. It was different than the Centurion Lounge. Of course, the Centurion Lounge has a way better food selection than The Club at DFW, but it was a great alternative. The staff was able to keep up with cleaning dishes and tables to make space for new guests.

I wish The Club at DFW would use the old space of the American Express Centurion Lounge. This spot would offer so much more space for guests. It’s just a short walk away on the mezzanine level on the opposite side of the terminal building.
